Looking at Ironfist I keep seeing "Classics Hound redeco."

Shortpacked!: It's a post-9/11 world.

I was not let down by Last Stand of the Wreckers #1.

See, here's the thing.  Nick Roche "gets" the Wreckers, he "gets" Transformers, and he "gets" visual storytelling.  That last bit is the most important.  Artists rarely do.  Even more rare are ones who can also write!

Wreckers, the concept, has principally been about grabbing a gaggle of forgotten toys, making them a team, and sending them off to probably die against a frightening foe.  And Roche has totally done that.  He's given us a handful of Europe-only late G1 and G2 guys and given them life.  Nobody's really touched these characters.  They're the kind of characters that, if they're lucky, show up in the background.  If they're even luckier, they're not cheap cannon fodder.  But Ironfist, Pyro, Guzzle, and Rotorstorm, most of whom haven't been properly characterized ever, are now all "real" characters to me.  That's awesome.

Meanwhile, the story pumps up Overlord as a very scary yet entertaining villain.  And since this is Wreckers, and since Overlord is a really sadistic terrible guy, I know some horrible things are going to happen.   And they'll happen at a good pace, with lots happening panel to panel!  With actual facial and body expressions!

Heroes I like.  A great villain.  Competent storytelling.

This should happen more often.
