SUPER AWESOME ARTS IN THE MAILS Shortpacked!: It's really all kinds of embarrassing.
Hey, remember back around my Weddings when I ran a bunch of guest strips? Well, the folks behind Tiny Kitten Teeth sent me their original painted art from their entry! Holy balls, dudes! As if that weren't crazy enough, it came with some black and white sketches of Mike, Ethan, and Batman.
I will need to frame this somewhere.
And down to the left is my current above-desk display of DC Universe Classics dudes. (Minus Deathstroke and Captain Atom.) Today I got Scarecrow in the mail from Sean Whitmore, of ComicCritics.com. Scarecrow's from waaaaaay back in the "DC Superheroes" phase of the toyline, but he's one of the few that has decent enough articulation to pass for a member of the current toyline. I'll talk about him in detail later. Probably Monday? Hrm.
I've also got Two-Face and Harley Quinn to talk about as well, now that I think about it. Oh, and I have a Man-Bat coming! Yeah, I'm rounding up these guys pretty quickly.
Funny thing is ab out today's strip, if I'd written and drawn it today instead of yesterday, it would probably have been about the endless list of ridiculously stupid errors in Transformers Continuum: The Definitive Chronology, not how dumbly vague it was about everything. Before, we only had five preview pages to go on. But today, we have yet another preview page and a review or two of the rest of the contents.
Mind, even in the first previewed page stuff is out of whack. It erroneously says their Megatron was originally a slave, not a bottom-rung mine worker. Well, that's fine, until you remember the reason he rebelled and began the Decepticons is because they were SHUTTING DOWN HIS MINE AND LETTING HIM GO. Megatron hates freedom!
Jesus, IDW, if you can't bother to read your own stuff while getting paid to do so, why are we forking over our money to you for the same material? C'mon, reading all your Transformers stuff can't take more than a day. There's not much of it! "Definitive Chronology" my ass.

Considering that you're mocking their errors, was coloring the seeker chasing Ratchet as Skywarp intentional? That's a pretty common error in Transformers comics generally.
There are a few times in Infiltration that Thundercracker is colored as Skywarp, yeah. (Or was it Escalation?)

Since I'm not on the channel and I know better than to buy this, how bad was it?

Well, it comes out today, as in Wednesday. Most people don't have it. But six pages are out for preview, and Tformers reviewed an advance copy of the entire book, confirming additional errors. So, hooray.

I do wonder where IDW gets it's writers from. It has no open solicitation policy and obviously no editorial policy (as far as we can see).
Seriously, would it be so hard to get a editor who understands continuity and can say NO?
No editorial policy is IDW's modus operandi.
Hell, Continuum is written by Andy Schmidt, who's (*SHOCK*) an editor on the Transformers titles, along with Denton J. Tipton.

Oooh. I love that Continuum book already! It reminds me of when I had to write a book report but didn't feel like reading the book and tried to BS my way through it by just watching the movie and skimming through a couple chapters.
So, uh, I'm kind of a very casual transformers fan, but I do like good SF, and I was wondering, was there ever a transformers continuity in which the ubiquitous passenger compartments and windshields (http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20060612.html), and in fact the transformations themselves, were justified by the robots still being actively enslaved by humanoid creators, and needing to be, you know, "in disguise"?
Because I keep thinking that that would make a frightening amount of sense for a series based upon an eighties kids cartoon show.
" It erroneously says their Megatron was originally a slave, not a bottom-rung mine worker" Man... not only that, but in the VERY SAME SENTENCE they refer to him and his brothers-in-arms as "working class". Which makes me wonder if Schmidt even knows what the words he uses mean.
Eesh.
I don't see any conflict here. The preview is just saying that Megatron was a working-class slave, as opposed to the despicable bourgeois leisure-class slaves.

You know, at first I thought you were making fun of the lame "origin" told in the first issue of the Marvel comic.
Oh yeah, and FOR SHAME WILLIS.
You failed to spell Bludgeon "Bludegeon" like they did in the Continuum!

Yeah, I and some other people were waiting for Bludegeon.

I thought Continuum was a fan-made book. I had no idea it was official. Ugh.
I sort of like this, I hope there will be more retellings of the IDW TF mythos in this fashion.
By you, I mean. Not IDW.

Also, it seems they messed up the title. I think it was supposed to read as "Continu... um..." and they just sort of smushed it together.
Makes more sense that way, anyway.
Seriously, this would work better as some sort of quiz game where you fill in the blanks.

Tiny Kitten Teeth: because if it creeps you out, it must be Art.

If only there was some sort of site that IDW could look at to check their facts. Some sort of Wikipedia, only for Transformers.
Obviously this is the post-Zero-Hour IDW continuity. We're not quote sure who's punching the walls of reality to jostle everyone's character models to shift every 8 months... so I'm going to randomly guess that it's Decepticharge. Or The Waspinator.

I'm really torn between buying this mess to enjoy in an MST3K sort of way and not wanting to give them reward money for making no good effort. :P
Jesus, IDW, if you can't bother to read your own stuff while getting paid to do so, why are we forking over our money to you for the same material?
That would be precisely why I stopped forking over my money to IDW.
But that's their OLD stuff. Not just All Hail Megatron (whose flavor of the weak character re-designs have been dumped in favor of movie-esque re-designs) but Furman's run! Hell-- Megatron: Orign practically predates Furman's run!
Everyone knows that at IDW you only have to do lip service to the run prior to your own (and expect them to do the heavy lifting on the way out to accommodate your sweeping changes.) Expecting writers and editors to think two or even three runs back (four whole years ago!) is simply unrealistic!
Sure, this project is ostensibly selling itself on the value of documenting and resolving the differences between those runs... but that's not the same thing as valuing them! I mean-- if IDW valued its long-time readers we wouldn't be getting moviebot designs in our G1 with no explanation, now would be?
So if the Decepticons were a bunch of slaves does that mean the Autobots amount to the equivalent of a bunch of Whit Supremacists?
Purple supremacists.
The red man can't get ahead man.

So, when will we be getting the Definitive Chronology of your ass?
Who's the guy standing next to Perceptor in that pic there? Roadbuster?
I guess the Arkham crew decided to have their poker night at the robot museum.
That's Universe Hardhead.

That is one of the sweetest Robin figures I've ever seen. =D
Also: Why does the fandom hate on Drift so much? I've seen(hell, written) worse characters than him.

Because Drift is a bad fanfic character dumped into profic. We kinda expect better from work we pay for than stuff we get for free. Yeah, yeah, hopeless optimism at work here, I know.
More to the point, while Drift's actual appearances haven't been SO bad to date, it's like the writers tried to shoehorn every bad fanfic cliche they could think of. Swords instead of guns? Check. MOAR SORDS? Check. Sword bigger than his body? Check. Moody loner ex-Decepticon antihero? Check. Mysterious Background? Check. Mistrusted but always proving trustworthy, for that extra dose of emo? Check. All he needs now is to be revealed as an ex-lover of Megatron and/or Optimus Prime.
