The first Ravage that can actually contain the soundtrack to "Cats." Shortpacked!: And get your damn fool hands out of your pockets!
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra comes out on DVD/Blue-Ray today (Tuesday), and I'm actually pretty excited! Rise of Cobra was surprisingly a fun, tolerable movie. And since it didn't go on and on and on and on forever, punctuated with robot-on-chick's-leg action, I'm probably looking forward to watching it more than my copy of Revenge of the Fallen! I was really looking forward to owning Revenge of the Fallen, sure, but that was to help fill out our beloved Transformers Wiki. But I'm looking forward to watching Rise of Cobra.
To celebrate this glorious day, enjoy a photo of Batman punching Rex "The Doctor" Lewis. (Microman Batman donated by The Last Gamestore.) I've actually been searching for the white-coated version of Rex so I can steal his labcoat for my Dr. Biggles-Jones kitbash, but he's been mighty scarce. I saw him for the first time with a batch of the new jungle/arctic/desert-themed guys. Is that who he's shipping with? Should I expect to see more of him? Because if I shouldn't, I'm painting this guy's coat white and ganking it.
(Man, that's a pretty good likeness on him.)
Anyway, Rex is just a sidebar. Because of today's strip, as the main event I thought I'd throw in some photos of the actual Device Label Ravage toy, rather than just screenshots of his computer program like I did on Saturday. He's a pretty big guy! He's about twice the size of most actual thumb drives, which makes some amount of sense. Real thumb drives don't have to accommodate an assortment of limbs. And if you want to carry him around in your pocket without fear of damaging the USB connector, you can slide it right inside. Thoughtful! And you could probably get a key ring through the holes in either of his shoulders, but I haven't tried that for myself to confirm.
The working part of the thumb drive is at the back of Ravage's neck, and it hides away inside the torso while in jaguar mode. The hind legs sort of clasp around it, protecting its tip, and also locking it from accidental movement. During transformation to jaguar, the head and neck flip around, and the legs unstraighten. The end! The jaw is articulated, as are all the limb joints, so you can get him into a number of poses.
And his head is proportionally larger than most Ravages, so he's kinda adorable.
My Ravage has spent pretty much the entire weekend plugged into one of my USB ports so that his computer program was activated. I foresee him plugging back in soon, now that I'm done photographing him. Too bad! It's a pretty nice Ravage toy. But it keeps being used on my dumb computer, like some sort of functioning technological device. What mockery is this? Eh, I have plenty of Ravage toys. I guess I can spare one to stick out the front of my desktop machine so a digital kitty can jump around. (I like seeing him occasionally stalk just outside the borders of my program windows, sometimes only through Vista's transparent title bars.)

There's a version of him coming with a white coat. Its either a new version, a running change or a chase though, not sure which
That is why I say "I've actually been searching for the white-coated version of Rex so I can steal his labcoat for my Dr. Biggles-Jones kitbash." :)
Man, now I want one. Where's that white one coming out? I'll paint it partly blue.

I hear it is out!
I have no idea where it is out. I have no idea how many people have seen it. But I hear it is out
Typo in third panel, Lable instead of Label. :(
Gad dang, I'll have to fix that when I get back to my Photoshop-having computer in an hour.
Put a Band-Aid (brand adhesive strips) on it! Will fix it for real later...
Wow. Someone's trademark-conscious. I guess the FCC's new blogging protocols have your you all- "a place for everything, and everything in its place!"

I'll have to see if Tigatron will run on my XP netbook.
Does it actually need to install anything, or does it run entirely off the USB drive? My work PC doesn't let me install anything (too many idiots installed viruses, now no one gets to install things without advance permission).
There's an installation involved.

Does that mean, when you plug it in it shows up as RAVAGE: in My Computer?

You should be able to rename it to whatever you like. I called my normal thumb-drive Laserbeak so that's what it displays whenever i plug it in.

I need this Ravage, like yesterday. Good thing I work in a toy store! *waves good bye to part of her paycheck*
Hope it's a Japanese import store!

I don't know if you allow "pimping" of such things, but... there's definitely a copied version for a bit less. Some even claim to be 4gb! I'm not the one selling 'em, just stating that it's already out there on the market. Them bootleggers are quick, I tells ya'! =D
Whether it has the same software is beyond me: haven't researched too hard yet...

Ann-nnd then I snagged one a few minutes after that post on eBay for $21.25! Nice! Guess I'll have an answer to the software question a few weeks from now.
Being that this *is* a copy, instead of rivet-joints there's mini screws in the legs. Is that going to cause problems with the insides striping out or would anybody here know? For now, I see it as a great opportunity for turning KO Ravage into Catgut. Now if only I could find a reasonable figure to turn into Treadshot... any suggestions? ;)
As much as I love John Hodgman, and I do... Justin Long is just a comedic master in everything I've ever seen him in. So I'm afraid the charisma battle victory goes to Long, for sure. The minor role in Zack & Miri ALONE...

huh..someone actually likes this guy. Well to each their own I suppose.
I love you, Walky.
First cartoonist to point out Hodgman has fifty million times more charisma and comedic talent than The Next Keanu Reeve, Justin Long.
And Device Label Ravage really doesn't work on Macs? I love Japan.

Captain Rufus here!
If its a standard USB drive us Mac dorks can still probably use it, but won't get access to the special functions like in our august host's Saturday pictures.
Then again I am not really sure if I want to pay 40 bucks for a 2 gig drive to test it out, even if there is a Tigatron one and he is my favorite Transformer.
(I guess I missed getting his second Botcon toy so its not like I NEED it right? I've got the Japanese BW mold and the 01 Botcon toy when he is in Transmetal Ranger mode with his best gal Airazor (also sans exclusive mold version but also BW toy is a foreign one. FROM CANADA!) so its all good. But considering I am mulling over selling my Brave Max my toy collecting gene is going away anyhow...)

I have a Tigatron coming eventually (it's a trade thing, so it'll ship when my trading partner has enough to fill a box for me), and I have a Mac at home, so my review will cover what it can and can't do on a Mac.

Hey, you already overpaid to have a computer in the first place, so what's holding you back?
awesome.
it's cool to have figures in scale with each other, but I really don't mind discrepancies in scale.
I don't mind for instance, that Indiana Jones is 4 inches tall and Hellboy is 8. In my toyniverse, they still exist together and interact.
one neat thing about having figures in smaller scale, though, is interaction with other accessories! Like the Weather Dominator (I Have to settle for the Weather Dominator, because getting those last two parts to the MASS device is like mining uranium.

As a techie, I really don't like those Mac Vs PC adverts. I know Mac OSes are great, but well, I like playing games and the wide range of software and hardware available for Windows-based PCs.

I just like that in the one where they mock all previous Windows OSes, ("Vista will fix everything XP did wrong") they didn't mention Windows 2000. I know they said Windows ME, and that's true, because ME sucked, but apparently Apple admitted that Windows 2000 is a perfect OS.

Windows 2000 wasn't really intended for home use, which is probably why it wasn't included. There was no real marketing push for it, and the OSX demograph probably hasn't even heard of it.
I was more surprised that they skipped Windows 3.0 (and 3.1) and went straight to Windows 2. Windows 3 was pretty darn ubiquitous back in the day....

Indeed. But have you SEEN Windows 3.1? IT'S PERFECT. Hell, I'm reinstalling it now...

So, the obvious question is: has anyone tweeted a link to the comic to Hodgman yet?
The ironic thing is that Hodgeman is a big time Mac fan since way back in the beginning. Though I guess that's as it should be since he's promoting the dang things, even if he is their Strawman PC.
Yeah, I'm unsurprised he's a big Mac fan, but he's been sabotaging the whole thing because he's way more likable than the smug hipster dude.
If he wasn't the ads would probably come across as mean-spirited. He manages to be an AFFECTIONATE avatar for PC's foibles.
Walky, I've been meaning to ask... was the "Tigatron works for Optimus Prime on the search for Energon" the default bio for the USB avatar, or did you type it in?
That's the default bio. You can only edit the name.
I too am a fan of Big Macs.
but special sauce gives me gas.

Just a quick note: Ravage is compatible with Macs. It says so on the site advertising them. Also, that's a damn cool USB drive, and I'm not even that much of a fan of Transformers to begin with!
Either way, freaking John Hodgman. He was always the funny one in that set of sketches, while the "Mac" guy is just kinda... there.
The USB drive is, I wouldn't count on the desktop enhancement being mac-compatible until I read a review from a mac user.

Apparently that doesn't work with Win 7 either.
Do I even need to mention that Intel Macs can run Windows 7 if desired?
I don't know why you'd want to, but you can have your Ravage and your Mac too.

Scratch that, a reboot fixed it. The app still runs in Windows 7, though.
I HATE those "PC vs Mac" commercials. As I was scrolling down and saw Ravage show up, I was hoping he would eat the Mac guy....too bad.
Check your local Aldis, if you have one, for the white coated Rex. I just saw one last night at the one by me here in Cleveland, but my budget wouldn't allow me to buy it (and that's sad when you consider it's just a 7 dollar toy. Yay economy!)

i saw two white the doctors at bi-mart today, along with two kamakuras. got one of each, haven't seen them yet, probably won't again. also left behind the night adder because he had black tattoos instead of the ridiculous baby blue i've seen online. is that a running change or a variant or was the blue a prototype?
i'd trade for a blue night adder, but chances are good if you've found that you've already got a white doctor.
(are they even in the same wave? i also didn't buy the red fang ninja, nano viper, and unmasked shirtless storm shadow. was this the motherlode and i blew it?)
