Yeah, so we found wave 4 TFCybertron deluxes today. They're showing up in Wal-marts everywhere, usually as part of a giant display pallet, so they should be pretty easy to find. Ours were found hung up on the pegs like usual, so maybe there wasn't room for the pallet itself.
Anyway, it was a bittersweet toy search because while we did find them, the whole wave is really frustrating. I don't like them. Brimstone is easily the best, but that's just because there's nothing outstandingly wrong with him. He's simple and playable, but on the Way Too Simple side.
On the other end of the spectrum is Crosswise, who's axe-murderingly complex and unplayable. Remember the RiD car brothers? Well, he's definitely one of them. That means he's got thin, fragile car pieces hanging off every bit of his body and he's floppy as all hell. Mine does the splits constantly like he's a performing circus clown or something. And getting him back into car mode involves all the fun of rearranging his altmode shell-pieces back together Rubik's Cube-style that Big Convoy offers. Too bad. I was looking forward to him.
And do I really have to say why I dislike Thunderblast? Dude, she doesn't even transform. You wad her up into a ball and close the boat hull around her. Her feet barely reach the ground, that backpack is so big. There's absolutely nothing I can do with her.
So, um, yeah. Hello whiplash, what with Cybertron having been so pleasant until this wave. Oh well. The sad thing is that since we've reached Christmas, we probably won't get any new waves until March...

Crosswise/Autovolt has grown on me, but after Energon and Armada's largely marvelous offerings, this is a confusing one. I still prefer my Energon toys. You hit the nail on the head, though.
Thunderblast, I still need to find. Although I have a feeling this will inspire me to pull out more Energon toys to futz with. I THINK we can expect Hot Short and Downshift by February but, unfortunately, I dunno for sure. I bet Swerve and Swindle are coming too... exciting.

Whiplash would be a good Transformers name.

I mean, the only real feminine TFs in both modes were TM2 and BM Blackarachnia.
On the other side of the equation, you've got BW Airazor, BM Stryka, and Cybetron Override, who are basically all dudes.
Pretty much the only female TFs that have really worked were Energon Arcee and TM Airazor...both of whom suffered from Huge Backpack Syndrome like Thunderblast here.

You either have to apply large amounts of kibble or forget putting the necessary curves on them.

I wonder if our W-M got it in yet?
Is it like that pallet when the Energon Combiners came out? (I have the banners from that one :D Too bad I don't work there now or I'd try to loot whatever I can from this pallet too -__- )

In defense of Thunderblast, her gun is really, really neat.
Okay, so it can't store its missile without the Key. It's a handheld missile launcher. It's neat.
As for Brimstone, for a long time- years and years, to be sure- I've wanted an airplane TF whose nose/cockpit section becomes a leg. Brimstone is close enough. (Though Energon Slugslinger wins on a technicality.)]
Crosswise is better than any Alternator because he's cheaper, and has action gimmicks.

I look forward to the day Transformers achieve the complexity of Pinhead's puzzle box -- minus the fish hooks, nails in head, and tortured screaming of the damned.

I really want to like Thunderblast. Sure her 'transformation' is more akin to a Pretender, but I mean, it's not like you didn't know that before you bought it. At least she has decent articulation. But anyway, I want to like her because the only thing that's more of a minority than femmebots is boat-bots. Plus Decepticon femmebots [have the potential to be] better than the femmebots of G1, unfortunately, they ruined that angle by making her all cutesy and flirty.
As for Crosswise, I hated the RiD Car Bros, but I love the Alternators, and I think Crosswise looks cooler than the Car Bros, so I'd give him a chance.
