Shortpacked!: Everything old is ... old again!

Ultra Car just had to comment on this eventually.

Preorders for Shortpacked! Book 2 continue!

Phew! I'm down to the last group o' folks in this year's BotCon set. That's right, these are the Shattered Glass heroic Predacons, represented as Mini-Con redecoes. According to Razorclaw's bio information, he was once a professor at Tyrest University, and when the Autobots blew it up, he and two students retreated into the mountains to have inappropriate relations become ferocious predators.

More college professors should disappear into the mountains to become lion-dogs.

No explanation is given for their tiny size in the "real" fiction, but I would probably adopt the April Fool's version's "shrink ray" explanation anyway, so the absence of a real story helps soothe that into my personal canon. (Annoyingly, their size in the comic ranges from "same size as everyone else" to "dinky," depending on the panel. Don Figueroa is usually more consistent than that.)

I really wish Divebomb (the bright orange bird-thing) had more paint in robot mode. Other than his head, all his paint is dedicated to his sparsely-detailed wings, which are hidden in robot mode. I think I'd love him a whole lot more if that were the case. I love him anyway, what with my orange fetish. It is, after all, a delicious Sunstorm-like orange.

The other guys are cool, too, though less orange, and are much better in the area of paint layout. They manage to get paint in both modes instead of decoing just one.

Poor heroic Decepticons. These dinky dudes are half of their rebel forces.

Looks like Number 5 may be slightly outdated and outmoded. You know, with Wall-E and all ;)

I do wonder what goes into writing transformer bios, I can spend a good half hour looking at the bios two or so figs that blow through here. Do they write it on friday night after imbibing vast amounts of alcohol? Did they turn unicron into a bong? Or do they just use a dartboard of hilarity?

Dude. Seriously? Didn't they already remake it?

Except it was a highly advanced stealth plane.

And Jamie Foxx.

Oh, I remembered the comic. I just didn't feel like searching your history...

I was planning on making one of your fans do my research for me, but oh well... Having you do it is much more awesome.

DANCE MONKEY DANCE. FETCH THIS COMIC FOR ME.

The variety.com link in your newspost seems to be full of viruses, unless AVG is overreaccting... although it seemed like some oddly named programs tried to access the internet while I was telling it to move things to the virus vault after clicking the link. Just thought you should know they might be sporting infected banners or something =XD and maybe not link there.

Sadly I didn't check this before I clicked the link. Fortunately my own AVG caught them.

I wonder what Mary Shelly would think if she knew she'd created what would become the most over-used shtick in science fiction?

She'd roll over in her grave.

Then be dug up, hit by lightning, and rampage through the nearest Waldenbooks.

Considering in the original "Frankenstein" novel, the monster wasn't brought to life by lightning, I think she'd redirect the blame to Universal pictures. ^_~

Okay, you got me. I'd forgotten that Doctor Frankenstein had kept his method of creating life a secret in the original story.

Now I blame you... long forgotten... film... guys.

Meh. Not as eloquent.

You gotta buy the BotCon convention box/bagged set, and both of the at-convention toy add-ons, as the three are split up between them.

You might be able to find a deal on eBay for just the trio at some point, since I don't think they'll be as popular as the big folks, and I know one of my pals put in a bid for one of them for $5 yesterday...

As a fan of the original Short Circuit movies, I do have to tilt my head in wonder about why the need to redo the movies, since I think they still work.

I mean, Number 5, IMHO, still seems pretty damned advanced. Unless of course we've developed laser weapons with the same destructive force that he had.

Hehehehe... "M-45, semi-automatic...! PLAY-DOH!"

But he doesn't LOOK advanced, he looks like an Erector set on treads, with a set of binoculars on top. (then again so does WALL-E...)

He must be remade, in gold - no, black with fire decals.

Oh, and boobs. That explode. And shoot lasers.

Laser explosions.

...Sorry, I was channeling Hollywood there for a second.

Why remake the original Planet of the Apes, or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Why remake any classic film that still holds up today?

Because there's a buck to be made, and that's bottom line. The sad fact of the matter is they may as well just remake classics considering how many films are thinly veiled rehashes of classic stories.

Yeah, but Planet of the Apes and Willy Wonka are WELL-KNOWN classic films. Short Circuit isn't exactly a common film among the general public.

Also, Planet of the Apes is a good example of why remakes aren't always a good idea.

Perhaps it's a 'topical' remake, since we've finally got war-drones deployed in combat- at least int he air- and we're working on ground versions.

"Johnny-5 must awaken to his humanity on the rough streets of Afganistan!" (hilarity ensues)
