Joyce and Walky!: Almost a true story. You know, I think it's time… - Shortpacked!
Joyce and Walky!: Almost a true story.
You know, I think it's time you guys knew the creation process behind this strip. I know, I know, you've seen every other cartoonist's "How I draw my strip" dissertation on the Internet, and you're thinking, "How can yours be appreciably different?" Well, it's a lot more complicated than you'd actually think.
First I get a letter-sized piece of paper and draw a 3"x10" border in non-photo blue pencil. I tend to divide this space up into 4 equal panels of 2.5", but not always. (I usually also measure out the borders for the next comic below.)
Then I pencil in Doug Funnie fucking ALF in the ass.
Now it's time to pencil in the strip.
Using a fine-tipped marker, first I mark in the panel borders using a ruler. Then I ink in most of the lines, then detail in the thinner lines using a very fine-tipped pen.
After scanning in the strip, filling in the blacks digitally, and then adding dialogue and/or narration, the strip is complete!
And that's how the strip is made!

And we've all at least thought about trying the iron-it-while-wearing-it trick.
Now Walky needs to wear Jetfire's helmet on his nose.

Hell, I've seriously contempated it more than once.
The joys of being a Junior ROTC cadet in a hurry. I'm sure everyone has at least once tried to shave while eating breakfast while driving to school in a snow storm.

NOT ALF!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Really? You can go direct from blue to ink? *jealous*
I have to go from blue (well, red, because I'm a communist... or possibly a Republican. Some enemy of democracy anyway.) to pencil, and then ink over things (Calligraphy stylus, whoo!) go back and erase the non-color pencil and scan.
I'm awed by your ability to do the color-work so quickly. I suppose you have years of practice now.

Heh, your description of how you draw comics randomly reminded me of the Red Vs. Blue PSA about how to make a Turducken.
...and then you stuff the whole thing into a 747...

My favorite part was the "Larger Turkey", the only response to which was "Wait, two turkies?"
When is the auction for the Doug Greeking Alf original art?

Jesus. I'm almost exactly like that, except it's Skeeter fucking Mork from Ork.
Wow, I didn't realized we shared some of the same steps. Clipboards, drawing the panels, doug sex.

Aw shucks, I was hoping to see a second version of the strip with the Alf assfucking inked. Does it look identical every time?

The Doug/Alf sketch was hilarious.

Indeed, you need to auction some Doug/Alf artwork some day.
But of course, in such a manner that won't get you sued by Disney.
Clearly I have been missing a crucial step.

Heh, this reminds me of the time I decided to color my hair blue, and after I put in the color then read the directions which said I had to heat it in order to make the color set right. I didn't have a hair dryer handy. But I did have an iron ...
|Date:||December 2nd, 2006 07:58 am (UTC)|| |
See, my first thought there is "how can I suspend myself upside down above the iron which is also inverted?"
Holy crap, that's awesome! Really I've never seen how anyone makes a strip, probably on the account I can't draw and can only make 3D stuff. Maybe if I sculpted Doug Funnie banging an Alf action figure, my customs would start rocking as hard as your strips? I'm thinking that one step is a keystone...
You know what I'd really be interested in?
A dissertation on how you make icons... *cough*... heh heh....

This is Doug's funniest (And only funny) moment.
|Date:||December 2nd, 2006 02:56 pm (UTC)|| |
You forgot about the part where I have sex with your sister.
|Date:||December 2nd, 2006 03:01 pm (UTC)|| |
Oh, my god. I've done that, and it didn't end well.
|Date:||December 2nd, 2006 05:25 pm (UTC)|| |
And then, some went beyond just thinking about it. :) Trying to get ironingboard abs?

What makes this hillarious is the comment right above it.
Then I pencil in Doug Funnie fucking ALF in the ass.
One of these days, you and I have to have a long talk.
|Date:||December 3rd, 2006 09:11 am (UTC)|| |
I'm beginning to think it's too late for that now.
Aw come on, Animal. that was one of the funniest things I've ever read on a LiveJournal!

Mental note: attempt Doug and ALF sprites.
|Date:||December 3rd, 2006 12:36 am (UTC)|| |
What, no "shemale vids"?
Is this Doug having butsecks with ALF done for EVERY strip, or do you alternate drawing who does who?
How do you create dialog boxes and bubbles? I can't figure that out right now, so my already crappily drawn webcomic looks even more amateurish without dialog bubbles.
Any help from you or any of the readers would be most appreaciated.
Shit. All these years I've been using Skeeter to fuck alf. I am suck.
I have so tried iorning a shirt while waring it.
